Introducing the lovely Etsy shop of my friend that I have had since preschool: yarnyumminess. Erin Kawamata can create designs I never thought possible with a crochet hook. Her innovative and absolutely stunning "drool bibs" are a great example of her ability to take an ordinary object and transform it into a work of art. Her droolery bibs, trivets and dishrags represent a beautiful intersection of form and function.
The purpose of a drool bib is to keep babies' clothing dry from the constant drooling that sometimes happens when babies teeth. Who needs a boring plain cloth bib when baby can have a hip fashion accessory as well? All babies drool - why hide it?
And who says drool bibs are just for the babies? They are for the "babes" as well. I wanted to buy this green snakish drool bib to add to my funky necklace collection, but another chica beat me to it. A gal has to be quick when shopping at yarnyumminess. You also must check yarnyumminess often. Erin creates one-of-a-kind pieces - no mass production here. Some of the pictures I posted are from my favorite past designs (green snake bib, orange calamari bib). These are not currently offered in Erin's shop, although perhaps with a bit of a bribe, she can make one just for you.
Erin's string of cherries piece represents her gradual move into crochet jewelry and less away from a drool bib function. This necklace would look great on a little girl in a summer frock or perhaps a 1940s retro mama.
